How the Brain Works The brain functions like a super-computer, taking in all the senses like touch, taste, vision, hearing, smell and balance through specialized nerves called receptors. This sensory information makes its way to the brain through the spinal cord. Once it enters the brain, there are certain 'association areas' that interpret the information and form a plan for expression (ie; move my hand, run away, speak, etc.). The brain is dependent on three things for survival:
Hemisphericity Hemisphericity or Brain Lateralization refers to a condition where one side of the brain is functioning less that the other, to a point that eventually creates physical signs and symptoms. Because each side of the brain controls different functions, Hemisphericity on each side will cause different problems. Hemisphericity is a common functional problem that can lead to many types of neurological as well as internal dysfunctions. Identifying Hemisphericity in our patients is a key part of our clinical workup. |
